Picky 2 Yr Old

I have the pickiest 2 year old eater on the planet. Sugarpuff will basically only eat a handful of different foods or so. It's frustrating when I try to introduce him to healthier and different kinds of foods and he continuously refuses. He loves chips though. Currently I'm combing through the internet to find easy to make meals for picky toddlers. I'm pretty sure he'll like smoothies so I will make it a goal to prepare tasty and healthy smoothies for breakfast.

Some Days They Try Your Patience

DES PLAINES, IL - OCTOBER 19: Food sits on a ...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Today the kids were extra active and frustrating. I stopped by McDonalds to get dinner after I picked up the kids. As usual, I could not sit still and eat without Sugarpuff running around and getting into trouble and annoying other customers in the restaurant. As I tried to eat, he tried climbing onto all the tables, intruded on other family's tables by touching their things or walking through their table area, invaded the janitor's closet, and upturned the soda onto the floor. This is typical of a day after school with Sugarpuff. I always try holding him while I eat but he struggles so hard that eventually I have a hard time trying to eat while holding him so I have to let him go.

Pony Ride Pictures

The pictures came out for Sweetheart and Sugarpuff's pony ride and picture day. The photographers had apparently brought hats and scarves for the kids to wear in the pictures. They had the kids posing in the most adorable ways! With their little arms and fists under their chins and sitting on the pony with cowboy hats and scarves around their necks, the pictures were perfect. They also got to ride the pony around on the grounds.

The first week of school, Sweetheart continuously offered me her work from that day of school. They were colored drawings, tracing numbers, paintings, etc. I realized that I wanted to keep these precious works that she had labored on in class for years to come to look back on. It'll be a great conversation piece for me and her as she gets older! :)

Starting School

My toddlers have started school together. I think it's really cute that they are going to school togther. I had forgotton that when little children start school, they also bring home viruses from the other kids. Almost immediately after Sugarpuff started school, he came down with conjunctivitis. It is very contagious and soon his sister and I got it. It's taken me and my daughter a month to start getting over it. I think my allergies are just aggravating it more though. It's nothing like a virus to totally turn your days upside down. I was non-productive for the most part. It's a terrible virus and I'm still getting over it.

They had pony ride day at school the other day and the kids were dressed up in hats and scarves and pictures were taken on the pony. They looked absolutely adorable! It's nice that the kids are in school and I am happy that they have a regularly scheduled week. I'm also happy with the school. I tried to look at as many schools as possible before deciding on the current one.

America's Got Talent: Kevin Skinner

It would be nice to find someone with Kevin Skinner's character from America's Got Talent to be my future partner in life. I guess it's a dream but single mothers can wish.

Water Balloons

Water Bombs filled with waterImage via Wikipedia

Looks like the kids really like water balloons. I couldn't resist letting them play water balloons today since the weather was so warm. They both ask for them and I can't blame them since it's really fun and cools them down. It was fun watching them squirt each other and throw water filled balloons.

I tried feeding Sugarpuff meatballs and vegetable soup but he wouldn't have it. He fell back on the old favorite: salsa chips, fried chicken, and seeds (in this case sunflower seeds). I'm happy he ate something other than chips. Sugarpuff will usually only eat something crunchy like chips. I don't know why he is a bigger size for a toddler his age. He likes to drink milk a lot and maybe that has helped him to grow big and strong or it could be genetics since there are larger people in Sugarpuffs families. Sweetheart was never this picky.

4rth Of July

Fireworks 04Image by sunsurfr via Flickr

It was a tiring day but a good day for the three of us. It seems public transportation has its good points. I didn't have to wait in the very long lines of cars leaving the fireworks locale. The kids got to have a lot of fun. They enjoyed wonderful playgrounds, lots of slushies and ice cream since it was very hot and we didn't have much of an apetite with the heat, a couple of amusement park rides, playing in a jumper, and a real nice fireworks show. I got a lot of excercise pushing the kids around in the heat. I'm glad I bought water from the bargain discount store before leaving for the fireworks locale. Amusement parks and holiday events are always extremely expensive and all the toys and paraphernalia that they sell are very tempting for the kids.

A Friday

The kids are amazing. They rarely take naps and they are active all day long. It makes it pretty much impossible for me to get ahead and make a dent in any work. Having two toddlers with as much energy and mischief as an extremely active child is challenging and that's an understatement. I have to be more creative than I'm capable. I had purchased a book that included a ton of activities for toddlers and it was about how to keep toddlers busy. Sugarpuff got a hold of it and somehow buried it somewhere that I would have to turn my place upside down to find. He's always interested in anything I put an ounce of attention into. My kids seem to be extremely observant and they have a need to figure everything out. It's interesting to see them grow.

Walmart And Their Toys

Thomas the Tank Engine''.Image via Wikipedia

I really like Walmart's toys and so does my kids. We went to Walmart to just browse and play this morning after a necessary appointment I had to attend. I also wanted to see what kinds of toys the kids would be attracted to play with. I looked for Thomas the Tank Engine for Sugarpuff but couldn't find any. I think I will try Target next time to see if they have it. I believe there is a very nice small model of one that is $8 which is a good bit of money for me but I know how much Sugarpuff loves Thomas. I've been trying to work very part time, with the time that I'm given throughout the day, to try and make as much money as possible and I'm motivated so I can look forward to buying the kids the toys they deserve. Sweetheart pointed out a few toys she really wanted and which helped me to figure out what I can try and get her for her birthday, if I'm able. I'll be trying to sell as much as I can to try and make money for her. There was a bicycle with trainers that she rode around the store for a while that she really liked and I thought had a very reasonable price tag of $50 but would be out of my price range right now.

Preparing For July 4th and Sweetheart's B-Day

The three of us went on a store outting today. Sweetheart was browsing through the toy sections of the drug store when she came across a very large musical, princess birthday card by Disney. The princess was Cinderella. Sweetheart loved the card. I quietly asked one of the people who worked at the store if they could hold one of them for me until close to Sweetheart's birthday and she said she would. I was happy. I bought wrapping paper at a discount store knowing Sweetheart would know what it would be for and she did ask so I told her the truth. It's hard to keep things secret as a brand new single parent with no real support yet.

Something to note: I was very pleasantly surprised to find that Sugarpuff allowed me to floss his teeth with absolutely no trouble whatsoever tonight. I never saw that coming. Sugarpuff is about 2 1/2 years old and I was sure he was going to kick and scream as he does when I brush his teeth. When I tried flossing his teeth at other times, he had fought with me so I was surprised. Maybe he was tired and didn't want to bother wrestling with me because he fell asleep soon afterward. Maybe I should floss his teeth knowing he will be falling asleep soon from now on. It would be a timing issue. Which reminds me of another similar incident. I took him to get his hair cut about a week or so ago. We prepared the booster seats right in front of him and sat him down on top to get him ready for a hair cut and he didn't make a complaint. He let the hairdresser go at it and he just calmly sat there. I was so upset that I didn't bring the camera. His little head sticking out of the neck wrap was beyond adorable. How non-chalant he was with the haircut was not something I could have ever predicted because he was his usual active self right before we placed him on the chair.

Trip To The Laundry Mat

It was a hot day but a trip to the laundry mat was necessary. I took my two toddlers, a large bag of clothes, and a blanket on top of a double stroller on a good walk to the laundry mat. My Sweetheart kept telling me the sun was burning her and I kept telling her that the sunblock would protect the three of us. I told her I would try to find hats for us to wear in the future to increase protection. I tried to make conversation with her about it. I often try to speak to my toddlers as if I'm having a conversation with them to help increase their vocabulary. I believe it is paramount to help develop a child's vocabulary early in childhood. I try to read to them as often as I can or as time allows. It's difficult to find the time but I think time should be made even if it is one reading from a book a day.

At the laundry mat, my son Sugarpuff, was extremely active as he is everywhere he goes. My daughter was also similarly active at this age. Many babysitters, including family members could not handle caring for them, even for a short period of time. I feared ADHD but my daughter seemed to develop normally and has toned down some near her 5th birthday. At around 11 months of age, my son pointed to an airplane and a helicopter in the sky consecutively and spoke "airplane" and "helicopter" in thick toddler accent, yet well enough for me to understand and I personally have a hard time understanding any English with a thick foreign accent.

A Day of Outtings

It was a nice warm to hot day after a couple of weeks of "June Gloom". I haven't had a car since the breakup so I take public transportation. The kids love outtings and I very much enjoy taking them out on frequent necessary errands or for fun once in a while. My son, Sugarpuff, especially loves the rides.

Mommyblog: A New Start

Having just broken up with my now ex-boyfriend of 6 years, it's more than just a little scary with two toddlers. The kids are my ex's biological children which adds to the pain of the breakup. When it's one of the primary dreams in life to have a normal family with the real father and having children with him, it was very tough letting that dream go. Ensuring the kids grow up healthy and free of any negative influences is a primary goal of a parent and that was one of the many reasons to end the relationship.

I have a 4 year old daughter and in this blog I will call her Sweetheart and I will call my 2 1/2 year old son Sugarpuff. They are the true, pure joys of my life. It's said that heaven is made up of such as these little children. They are two very cute, good looking kids and I'm not just tooting my own mommy horn.

Sweetheart will be entering kindergarten this fall and Sugarpuff will be enrolling in daycare. They have lived at home with me almost exclusively. Sweetheart was in daycare for about six months while I was pregnant with Sugarpuff and I was working at a job.

I'm starting over now with a completely new life with my two little ones and starting this blog is a part of it. They are now screaming for my attention or intervention so I'll be back later.
